Primary 5!

Welcome to Primary 5!
Our teacher is Miss Porter and our learning support assistants are Miss McBride, Miss Farren, Miss Coyle and Miss Quant.
This is an exciting year, the beginning of Key Stage 2. This can feel like a big jump for the children, with work feeling more challenging. Our aim as a team is to support the children with this transition and enable them to become more independent learners.
In P5, the children will be expected to become more responsible for their own organisation and their own belongings.
We have a busy timetable (see below) with lots of learning each day as well as lots of fun activities. Our PE days for Term 1 are Monday and Wednesday for Swimming and Fitness Class. In Term 2 & 3 our PE days will be Wednesday only. Children should wear their PE gear to school on these days. Every day, children should wear a waterproof coat and bring with them a healthy snack and a bottle of water.
In Primary 5 children will be expected to know all number bonds to 20 and will be learning the times tables up to 12. This needs a lot of practising at home, every night if possible.
It is important that children are completing their homework each night to allow them to consolidate their learning from school each day. Accelerated Reading and Mathletics Log-Ins can be found inside each child’s homework diary.
Most Primary 5 pupils are already independent readers, but all children benefit greatly from being encouraged to read and discussing books with an adult. The Accelerated Reading programme is a great way to develop their independent readings skills and create a genuine love for reading.
If you have any questions or you need to speak to me at any time please approach me on the playground or ask Carmel to arrange a meeting or phone call with me at a time that suits.
I look forward to a positive, fun and exciting year ahead!
